Certified Change Management Professional (CCMP) - What is it, really?

If you pay attention to the Change Management community, you’ve likely heard about the CCMP certification. The CCMP™ is a globally recognized credential established by ACMP® for professionals to demonstrate their commitment to leading the way change works.

What’s the process?

At first, becoming certified may seem daunting, but we’re here to help dispel any confusion around the CCMP certification and help you succeed! We’ve outlined the four-step certification process below.
  1. Determine Eligibility: In order to complete the CCMP certification, you must have Education, Experience and Training. We’ve listed the requirements below:
    1. Education and Experience: A 4-year degree (or international equivalent) and 4200 hours (3 years) of change management experience, OR Secondary education (high school or international equivalent) and 7000 hours (5 years) of change management experience.
    2. Training: Completion of 21 hours of instructor-led change management training in a program aligned with The Standard for Change Management© in the past 7 years.
Please Note: Experience hours do not require you to be the change leader on a project. Any change experience can qualify you for hours. However, these hours are subject to audit.
  2. Application Process: The online application includes entry of your education, experience, and training. You will be asked to correctly answer 3 out of 5 essay questions (maximum of 500 words each) demonstrating your change management experience.
You can start your application on ACMPGlobal.org
Upon successful review of your application, you will be notified that you can schedule your exam.
  3. Prepare for Exam: You are given a year after your successful application to complete the exam, and most complete it in much less time. A full complement of study materials is provided to you by ACMP, or you can get some resources from myccmp.org!
  4. Pass Exam and Get Certified: The exam includes 150 multiple-choice questions testing both your knowledge and ability to apply it to common scenarios. Questions are based on ACMP's The Standard for Change Management and the Code of Ethics.

What are the benefits?

The CCMP credential confirms that you have the education, experience, and skills to effectively manage change, and demonstrates your commitment to personal development in the discipline of change management (ACMP Global, 2015) .

For a full list of benefits, check out the ACMP Global website!

What’s the cost?

There is one fee for the CCMP certification which includes the application and the exam. This payment is sent prior to the application review process and is:
  • $595 for ACMP Members
  • $745 for non-members

I’ve still got questions!

ACMP Ohio has many CCMP certified members who are happy to answer your questions around the process or the exam. We even have a LinkedIn group that can help. Contact ACMP Ohio VP, James Gerhard, to direct your question!

She enjoys caring for and educating people but did not see a future in K-12 education. In 2015 she made a significant career shift and returned to
